These are great bookmarks to make as you can use ribbon cut to length or paper that you have made while trying out other projects like splatter painting, blow painting, sponging, stencilling, the list is endless really. You can just use the ribbon/decorated paper cut to size and if you want to jazz it up a bit you can stick some flat items onto it to get the effect you desire, like sequins, ribbons photos etc. Laminate it, add an eyelet with a tassel or ribbon if you like and hey presto you have a pretty cool bookmark for yourself or to give as a gift.
1. Cut the Ribbon or decorated paper to size (bookmarks vary in size, an average size is 5cm(2”) x 20cm(8”), but you can make them any size you want.
2. If you want to add on extra decorations then using PVA glue, stick on your chosen decorations and leave to dry then use as a bookmark or follow the next step.
3. Laminate your bookmark, and after laminating flatten under some heavy books to stop it curling. Then cut them out, leaving approximately 5mm around the edges. If you are adding an eyelet, leave a longer length of plastic (approx. 2cm) at one end so that there is enough space for the eyelet to be fitted into. You can then add an eyelet and ribbon or tassel if desired. A top tip if adding a length of ribbon – Finish off by adding some ‘fray check’, ‘super glue’ or ‘clear nail varnish’ to the cut ends as this will stop them from fraying.
